A Real Witch's Store?!

Rumor has it a witch's store exists. What will Hello, Happy World! do upon hearing the rumors...?

Transcript

Tsurumaki Residence

Misaki & Kanon: A witch's store?
Hagumi: Yeah, yeah! Akari told me about it. There's a rumor going around her school.
Hagumi: It's a shop where some lady dressed in black sells spooky stuff!
Kaoru: Are you implying that this woman is a witch?
Hagumi: Yeah! Like one straight out of a picture book!
Kokoro: Do you think she's this kind of witch?
Misaki: What do you mean by that...? Is that a picture book?
Kokoro: Yeah, it's my picture book! It has witches in it!
Kanon: Umm, ah, there they are. There's also something written about them.
Misaki: Like what? "Witches wear gloves all year round"...?
Kaoru: "Witches eyes appear to be red."
Kanon: And it says here, "witches are not good with children, so they have large noses to sense them with."
Hagumi: Yeah! That's it, exactly! Akari said the old lady looked just like that!
Kokoro: That's amazing! She must be a real witch!
Misaki: No, I think it's probably just a coincidence. She's exaggerating.
Kanon: There were a lot of rumors like that back in elementary school... So maybe we shouldn't get too excited about it...
Misaki: That's right. And I bet that lady doesn't appreciate being gossiped about.
Kokoro: I know! Let's go and meet this witch right now!
Kokoro: We can ask her to show us some magic! That would be stupend-erific!
Hagumi: I wanna go too! I've always wanted to meet a real witch!
Kaoru: Fufu, the prospect of seeing magic with my very own eyes is quite a thrilling development. Truly fleeting...
Misaki: Are you guys even listening?
Kanon: They're very intent on visiting that store...
Misaki: They really never listen...
Misaki: Well, whatever. I'm sure they'll realize she's not a witch if we go and see for ourselves...
Kanon: Yeah, that's true... Oh?
Kanon: Where's Kokoro-chan...? And Hagumi-chan and Kaoru-san...?
Hagumi: Kano-chan-senpai! Mii-kun! Let's go already~!
Kanon: Oh they're already outside...
Misaki: I wish they'd use this vitality of theirs to listen to people when they're talking...
MAHO DO - Interior

Kanon: I-is this the store...? The sign says "MAHO DO."
Misaki: This place is a little spooky, no wonder there are rumors... Their products are a bit strange too...
Kaoru: I-I imagined it to be the store of a more amiable witch, but, yes, I suppose there are witches like this too...
Misaki: Are you okay, Kaoru-san? You look a little pale.
Kanon: This store does feel a bit scary...
Kaoru: I-I am not afraid, not in the slightest. It's just different from what I'd expected, so I'm a little bewildered, that's all. Hahaha...
Kokoro: Seems like no one's here. I wonder where the witch lady is.
Hagumi: Hello?! Anyone home?!
Old Lady: My, my, is that a customer...?
Misaki: Ah, hello. Sorry for the intrusion.
Kokoro & Hagumi: ...!
Hagumi: Look, Kokoron! This old lady's wearing gloves!
Kokoro: Her eyes also look kind of red! And her nose is huge!
Old Lady: What's with all the gawking...? Sigh, this is why I'm no good with children...
Hagumi: Did you guys hear that?! She hates kids!
Kokoro: That settles it! You're a real wit-
Misaki: Cut it out!
Hagumi: But this lady's gotta be a-
Misaki: I said, cut it out!
Kokoro & Hagumi: But why?
Misaki: Why...? Because it's rude. You can't just call people witches.
Kokoro: I don't really get it, but... okay. Don't call witches "witches," got it.
Hagumi: I didn't know the witch world had that kinda rule~.
Misaki: You two aren't getting this at all... Oh well, I guess this works too.
Old Lady: Oh my, you're quite the rowdy bunch, aren't you? I don't mind that you're energetic, but try not to make too much noise.
Old Lady: I don't get a lot of customers as it is. You might scare them off even more.
Kokoro: ...? You don't get many customers?
Old Lady: It's just as you see. I want my store to thrive, but for some reason, I just can't seem to get any customers...
Kokoro: Then you should do something to get lots of customers! I'm sure you could have a store full of smiling faces!
Misaki: There she goes again...
Misaki: Wait a minute... I have a bad feeling about this...
Kokoro: Hey, lady! We'll help you get your store full of smiles!
Misaki: Yep, there it is...
Kanon: U-um, Kokoro-chan, do you have an idea on how to attract more customers...?
Kokoro: We can think of one together!
Hagumi: Yeah! That's our specialty!
Kaoru: Y-yes, it is. I, of course, have no objections to lending a helping hand...
Old Lady: It'd be a dream come true if you could get customers to come... But can you kids really do something like that?
Kokoro: Yes, leave it ti us! We're great at making people smile!

Let the Planning Begin!

The girls begin planning for MAHO DO's reopening!

Kokoro: Now let's begin our strategy meeting!
Hagumi: We want to get lots of customers to come, right?!
Kokoro: Hmm... I wonder why they're not coming. It's such a fun store with lots of things I've never seen before!
Old Lady: Yes, yes, you've got an eye for this, don't you?
Old Lady: As you can see, I have a great store here, but no one comes by. Even when people do come in, they tend to leave in a hurry.
Kokoro: Hmm... That's very strange!
Kokoro: You've got so many things, like that skeleton over there and that creepy ghost painting!
Misaki: No, no, I'm pretty sure those aren't the reasons they're not coming!
Hagumi: Huh? What do you mean?
Misaki: Well... this store is scary.
Kanon: I think a lot of people might be frightened of places like this... I'm not very good with them either...
Kaoru: Y-yes. It does have the type of ambiance that would make one hesitate.
Old Lady: S-scary...? I'd never thought of it like that before...!
Kokoro: Now that you mention it, this place is a little dark.
Hagumi: I don't think it's very scary... But I think it'd be way, way better if it were a cuter store!
Old Lady: I-I see. That was a big oversight on my part. Thanks.
Misaki: Also, I feel like the products themselves might be your problem. It's kind of like an explosion of creepiness...
Kanon: Y-yeah, like this spider pendant... It looks just like the real thing, so it gave me a fright.
Hagumi: Huh? There's something written on the price tag.
Misaki: "Spiders are lucky creatures. This pendant will bring you good luck"...?
Kaoru: What about that crow feather brooch...?
Hagumi: It says, "Crows are clever creatures. This brooch will give you wisdom in times of trouble"!
Kanon: Does this store sell... good luck charms...?
Misaki: Ah~, you do see stores like that every now and then.
Kokoro: Charms...? You mean like magic charms? Wow! So you sell magic stuff, right?!
Hagumi: Wah! So it's true then! This old lady can use magic!
Kanon: E-erm, I don't think magic and good luck charms are the same thing...
Misaki: It does make sense, though. That's why this place has this weird atmosphere. That also must be how those rumors got started...
Misaki: But I think stores like this usually sell more accessible products, like gemstone jewelry and such...
Misaki: This store feels more genuine, or rather, it's gone past that into grotesque territory...
Kanon: They do look a little hard to wear...
Old Lady: Huh...? But aren't spiders and crows more stylish than plain old gems? That's what I always thought...!
Kokoro: I love all of the things you have here! They're so unique!
Kokoro: Look, I've never seen a phone strap like this before!
Kaoru: That's... Erm, what exactly is that, Kokoro?
Kokoro: This is~... It says it's a frog strap!
Misaki & Kanon: A frog?!
Hagumi: How's that a frog? It doesn't really look like one.
Kaoru: It almost looks as if it were drawn by a small child. It is remarkably simple, and the more I look, the more I think it may not be a frog...
Kanon: The other animal-themed goods look just like the real thing. I wonder why this one is a little different...
Misaki: Maybe the craftsman was half-asleep when they made it...?
Old Lady: I made that one to look like the real thing too... It just might not be the type of frog you folks are familiar with.
Old Lady: Anyhow, I get it now. Both the store and the products are no good.
Old Lady: I can do something about the interior, but if I'm gonna make new goods, what kind should I make...?
Kokoro: You're going to...
Hagumi: Make them...
Kaoru: It cannot be. Did you craft all of these by your own hand?
Misaki: What?! These are all handmade...?! They're such high quality...!
Old Lady: It's not that big of a deal. But yes, I made them. Could you girls help me make some new products? I think they'd just turn out the same if I made them...
Kokoro: Wow! That sounds like so much fun!
Hagumi: Yeah! I'll help! I'll make lots of cute things!
Kaoru: Indeed, I cannot let those down who count on me. I shall adorn this store with my fleeting designs.
Misaki: W-wait, guys, we've never made things like this before...
Kanon: Ngh, can we really make items good enough to sell...?

Happy! Lucky! Magic of Smiles! Event Story - Chapter 2
Let's Make Magical Items!

The girls try to make magical items...

Transcript

MAHO DO - Interior

Old Lady: ... So that's more or less how I make them.
Misaki: Huh, so you make your items out of clay...? I see, so then you just have to bake them in the oven...
Kanon: That's a relief. The process doesn't seem as difficult as I thought it would be.
Kaoru: ... I beg to differ. I am only just now realizing how challenging this task may be.
Kanon: Ah, yes. The final step is simple, but sculpting items out of clay that are as good as hers does look difficult.
Kaoru: That is not what I meant. Sculpting I can do... But magic is beyond my abilities...
Hagumi: Ah! That's right! I can't do magic either~!
Misaki: Magic...? Ohhh, you mean like what's written on those tags?
Misaki: I don't think that woman can actually use magic... I'm pretty sure it's just the theme of her store...
Kokoro: Hey, ma'am, how can we make these magical?
Old Lady: As long as you use this clay, it should be fine. Anything you make with it will have magical powers.
Kokoro: Magical powers?! Wow, so this is magic clay?!
Hagumi: Whoa! This is my first time seeing magical clay!
Old Lady: But you have to put your heart into making it, you know?
Old Lady: If you don't focus on what kind of charm you want it to be, the magic won't work.
Misaki: It looks like normal clay to me... I didn't realize this is how these types of stores made their products.
Misaki: But isn't "put your heart into it" a bit too vague...?
Kanon: Ahaha... This shopkeeper sure likes to joke.
Kanon: But when she says it, it makes me think that the clay really might be magic.
Misaki: Well, she certainly looks like she can use magic, doesn't she?
Misaki: If I were an elementary school kid, I might have even thought she was a witch...
Kokoro: Okay, it's our time to shine! Let's make lots of goods that will make customers smile!
Hagumi & Kaoru: Yeah!
Kokoro: Mmm~! I'm done!
Misaki: Huh? Already? But we've only just begun...
Kokoro: I just had so many things I wanted to make! Before I knew it, I'd made them all!
Kokoro: Look, everybody, it's a happy brooch!
Misaki: Happy brooch...?
Kanon: Erm, what shape is that...? Is this the top? Ah, or does it go this way...?
Kokoro: It's a smiley face! It's full of magic to make sure you have lots of fun!
Kokoro: And this one is a star~! It's got the power to let you see starry skies! Then there's this one~...
Misaki: I-I don't really get any of them. Or rather, they all look the same...
Kanon: Kokoro-chan's drawings are very unique... and so are her sculptures...
Kaoru: As expected, Kokoro, your brooches are going to be overflowing with charm.
Kaoru: But alas, I will not be outdone. Behold, my fleeting, gorgeous creations.
Hagumi: Lemme see, lemme see! Did you make these, Kaoru-kun...? Huh? Kaoru-kun?
Kokoro: Look at all the mini Kaoru faces! You're so good at this! They all look just like you!
Kanon: Wh-why did you sculpt your own face, Kaoru-san...?
Kaoru: Because people enjoy beautiful accessories. As I ruminated on this, the most beautiful thing that came to mind was... me.
Kaoru: I am certain that, if we turn these into pendants, they will make the customers shine even brighter.
Kaoru: This melancholic me will bring the wearer an encounter to make their heart race...
Kaoru: This gallant me will give the wearer the courage to face anything. And-
Misaki: We're not making band merchandise, you know... The only people who would buy these are your fans, Kaoru-san.
Kanon: If that's the case, they might actually sell out...
Hagumi: Kokoron and Kaoru-kun, you're both so amazing! Okay, now look at what I made! I worked super hard!
Kanon: What did you make, Hagumi-chan...? Oh, there's quite a lot here. A softball, a monkey, and... Is this a croquette?
Hagumi: That's right! I made all the things I like!
Hagumi: This is a magical softball that'll make you hit a home run for sure!
Hagumi: And for that one there, I cast a spell so that the teacher never calls on you in class~!
Kanon: Fufu, that's very like you, Hagumi-chan.
Misaki: Maybe it's because I saw yours after Kokoro and Kaoru-san's, but I'm quite relieved by how cute and normal they are...
Misaki: Hm? Hey, Hagumi? Is that one... Michelle and Marie?
Hagumi: Yeah! Those charms are a two-in-one!
Kanon: Two-in-one?
Hagumi: Yeah, I made them so that the two people who carry these will be best friends forever, just like Michelle and Marie!
Kanon: Friends forever, huh...? That sounds really lovely.
Misaki: I don't know if using Michelle's image to sell stuff is a good idea, but... I guess most customers would just think it's a bear and a rabbit.
Hagumi: Kano-chan-senpai, Mii-kun, what did you guys make?
Kanon: It's not quite finished yet, but... I'm making a penguin. I'm not too confident about it, but I'm hoping it turns out okay.
Misaki: I'm not done yet at all. I know what I want to make, but I can't decide what kind of magic I should put into it...
Misaki: I know it's kind of rude to say this here, but I don't really believe in that sort of thing...
Old Lady: My, my, what a dreamless child.
Misaki: Yeah, I get that a lot...
Kokoro: It's okay, Misaki! I'm sure you can cast some wonderful spells too!
Kokoro: You just have to think of fun and happy feelings while you sculpt the clay! If you do that, you'll be able to make some really nice good luck charms!
Old Lady: It seems the long-haired girl over here has aptitude.
Kanon: Aptitude...? Aptitude for what?
Old Lady: Well, the aptitude for magic, of course. I suppose you could also call it the ability to make her feelings a reality.
Kokoro: Wow! So I can use magic?!
Hagumi: That's amazing, Kokoron! I'm jealous~. I wanna do magic too~!
Misaki: Magic...? There she goes again, saying strange things...
Kanon: Fufu, but if that's what it takes to be able to use magic, Kokoro-chan definitely has it.

The Next Day

Residential Area

Kokoro: Making those goods yesterday was really fun!
Hagumi: The old lady was happy that we made so many! But before I knew it, it was nighttime! I was so surprised!
Kanon: She said she would display the pieces we made, didn't she?
Kaoru: To think customers will be encountering our fleeting creations... Fufu, I cannot wait to see what kind of faces they will make.
Misaki: But the interior of the store is still the same as it was... So she might not get any customers yet.
Hagumi: ... Huh? That's the store over there, right?
Kanon: Yeah, but- Huh? There's a crowd in front of the store...
Kokoro: Are they customers?!
Misaki: L-let's go and see!
MAHO DO - Interior

Misaki & Kanon: ...
Misaki: Th-this is MAHO DO, right?
Kanon: Wow, it looks completely different from how it did yesterday...
Kokoro: Yeah! Now it's a super happy store!
Kaoru: Yes, this enveloping sense of security... This store has been reborn as a truly fleeting one!
Hagumi: This is amazing! I guess the old lady must've worked hard last night!
Misaki: No way. No matter how hard you work, you can't renovate a store overnight...!
Kanon: B-but she did...
Kanon: Maybe she really can do magic...
Misaki: K-Kanon-san, not you too. There's no way she can...
Kanon: Y-you're right. It's not possible.
Kaoru: Even so, it is remarkably crowded in here. Yesterday's silence feels like a dream.
Kokoro: Yeah, I bet the owner's really happy being surrounded by all these customers!
Hagumi: Hmm... She's over there, but she doesn't look too happy.
Misaki: Ah, there's a huge line at the counter...! She can't handle this many customers alone.
Kanon: W-we should help her...!
Kanon: P-please line up over here if you're waiting to pay~.
Misaki: Good job, Kanon-san. I think the line should be fine like this.
Kanon: Sigh, thank goodness... Oh? Where did Kokoro-chan and the others go?
Misaki: They're talking to customers about the products. Look over there...
Kokoro: Hey, what kind of good luck charm are you looking for?
Little Girl A: Do you have one to help with nerves? I have a piano recital coming up...
Kokoro: In that case, I have the perfect brooch for you! This brooch will help you have lots of fun!
Little Girl A: Lots of fun... Um, I just want something that calms my nerves...
Kokoro: I don't really know what these "nerves" are... But your heart feels heavy with worry, right?
Kokoro: In times like that, smiling is the best medicine! If you're smiling, all your worries and fears just disappear!
Kokoro: This brooch will attract lots of fun to you, so I'm sure you'll be able to face your recital with a smile!
Little Girl A: Y-you really think so...?
Kaoru: Greetings, my troubled little kitten. Tell me, what is it that you're looking for?
Little Girl B: I want a victory charm to help me win. I have a basketball game soon...
Kaoru: I see, so you wish to ask for certain victory. In that case, I recommend this gallant Kaoru Seta pendant.
Kaoru: Just looking at it makes courage well up deep inside you, does it not? That is the kind of magic this charm holds.
Little Girl B: ... Will it really work?
Kaoru: Of course, I wouldn't lie to a cute little kitten. Now, let me bestow some words of wisdom upon you.
Kaoru: Do not fear defeat, be brave, and step up to the challenge. The goddess of victory will surely smile down upon you.
Little Girl B: ... Thank you. I'll do my best to win!
Hagumi: Kokoron and Kaoru-kun are working hard to help customers... Alright, I gotta give it my all too~!
Hagumi: Ah, there are some girls over there. I wonder if they're friends~... Hello~
Hagumi: What kinda charms are you looking for? If you'd like, I can give you some recommendations!
Little Girl C: We want to get matching friendship charms.
Hagumi: Matching ones?
Little Girl C: Yeah, I wanna match with Luka-chan.
Little Girl D: I'd love to match with you, Lika-chan.
Hagumi: I see, so you two are really close, then!
Hagumi: They don't match exactly, but I have the perfect two-in-one straps for you both!
Hagumi: Here, look, look! It's a bear and a rabbit!
Lika: Wow, they're so cute! A pink bear and a purple rabbit!
Hagumi: These charms have a special magic in them. If you both keep one each, you'll be best friends forever!
Lika & Luka: Best friends forever...?
Luka: Hey, Lika-chan, let's get these! We can put them on together!
Lika: Yeah, if you like them too, let's get them! We'll take these two straps, please!
Hagumi: Wow, I'm so glad you like them~! Thanks! Take good care of 'em!
After Hours

Misaki: Sigh~, things are finally calming down. I'm exhausted...
Kanon: Yeah, but I'm glad everything went well.
Old Lady: You girls really saved me.
Old Lady: I didn't think it'd get that busy so soon... I need to get myself an apprentice, or else I won't be able to run the store.
Misaki: An apprentice?
Kanon: Perhaps she means someone to help make the goods...?
Old Lady: Sorry about this, but could you girls help me out until I find one?
Kokoro: Yes, leave it to us! We'll help make the store smile more than ever!
Misaki: I would say don't make any more promises, but... I guess that ship has sailed, so we don't have much choice.
Hagumi: We can't leave the old lady all alone when the store is this busy!
Kaoru: Yes, it is just as Shakespeare once said, "We should help each other in times of need..."
Kanon: D-did he really say that...?
Misaki: Well, let's just do our best until things cool down.

MAHO DO - Interior

Hagumi: There are lots of customers here today too!
Kaoru: Yes, they are brimming with vitality and fleetingness... It feels as if the store is overflowing with smiles.
Kanon: But it's a little less busy than it was at first. I think the shopkeeper can handle this much on her own.
Misaki: Ah, that reminds me, some customers came in to share some news with us today.
Misaki: They said that, thanks to the charms they bought, good things have happened to them. Like wishes coming true, and problems being solved...
Kokoro: What great news!
Hagumi: Ehehe, I knew that magic clay was the real deal! And that also means we were able to make the magic work properly!
Kanon: Fufu, it would be nice if it truly was due to the power of magic.
Kanon: But isn't it also thanks to the hard work of Kokoro-chan and the others...?
Misaki: Huh? What do you mean?
Kanon: Kokoro-chan, Kaoru-san, and Hagumi-chan have been recommending charms to customers, haven't they?
Misaki: Ah~, they have been doing quite a good job of that, haven't they?
Kanon: Yeah, they've been listening to the customers and thinking about how they can help solve their issues.
Kanon: I just thought... that night be what's pushing the more conflicted customers in the right direction.
Misaki: I see. Your frame of mind probably does have a lot to do with it...
Misaki: Things generally tend to not go so well when you have little confidence or courage.
Hagumi: I wasn't thinking about it that deeply... But if that's the case, then I'm really happy!
Kaoru: There is no greater joy than that which comes from helping others.
Kokoro: Yeah, I'm happy that we can make people smile!
Misaki: But with the number of people coming in to tell us their good news, I feel like we're doing a little too well...
Kanon: Hm? What do you mean?
Misaki: There are too many success stories... Do things really go that smoothly from just a little push...?
Kanon: When you put it like that... D-do you think something magical really is happening...?
Misaki: N-no way, it can't be. I just thought it was a little peculiar.
Hagumi: Ah, a customer! Welcome!
Lika: ...
Hagumi: Oh? You're the girl from the other day... Lika-chan, right? You came back! Thanks!
Kaoru: I see. Is she the girl who bought Hagumi's decorative strap?
Kokoro: Hagumi was so happy about that!
Misaki: But that girl looks kind of gloomy...
Lika: ... I came to return the strap I bought the other day.
Hagumi: Huh...?
Hagumi: Return it? Why? Isn't it supposed to match with Luka-chan's...?
Lika: We got into a fight, so I don't need it anymore...
Kanon: Wh-why were you fighting? I heard you were very close...
Lika: Luka-chan is transferring schools, and she hid it from me! She's moving tomorrow...!
Hagumi, Kanon, Kaoru & Misaki: ...!
Lika: You lied to me! You said this strap would make us best friends forever!
Lika: But it doesn't have any magic at all! You liar!
Hagumi: ...!
Misaki: Ah, wait a minute...!
Kaoru: ... She's gone.
Hagumi: I put all of my feelings into those straps, but I guess it wasn't enough...
Kanon: H-Hagumi-chan...
Hagumi: That girl was crying... because of me...
Hagumi: Hngh, I'm sorry, Lika-chan... Did I really lie to you...?
