Higashinakano Nao is one of the members of the former idol unit "Marmalade" who first appears in the PHASE-Illuminate- event where she gets assigned to become Pastel*Palettes's producer and mentor for Tokyo Idol Summit. After Marmalade disbanded, she mainly worked as a model and columnist, before deciding to become an idol producer herself. Her catchphrase during her Marmalade days was "I'm Marmalade's fizzy girl with a twist of lemon~."
Background[]
Nao was one of the members of Marmalade together with Ayumi and Miharu. She mentions joining her agency out of curiosity, thinking it might be a fun thing to try out, and there she ended up meeting her former groupmates.[1]
Personality[]
Nao is a friendly and energetic woman. Chisato describes her as a "unique person."[2] Although she is still inexperienced when it comes to being a producer, she is dedicated and hardworking, watching every program the members of Pastel*Palettes appeared in and listening to Eve's radio show in order to get a good image of the girls.
At the same time, she can be very blunt when giving criticism, such as telling Pastel*Palettes that unless Aya improves, she'll change their lineup and replace Hina as the band's vocalist and center instead,[3] and harshly telling the ViVidCanvas members to accept reality (that many idols will never be able to perform at Budokan, no matter how hard they try or sacrifice for the sake of their goals) and how they should quit being idols if they cannot do so. According to Hina, Nao "always says things that hit the nail on the head, but sometimes she comes across extremely cold."[4] During her introduction, she also mentions that she isn't "great with the whole idol thing," before backpedaling and claiming she personally was bad at being an idol.
Etymology[]
Higashinakano (東中野): Higashi (東) means "east", Naka (中) means "within, middle" and No (野) means "field". Higashinakano is also a railway station located in Nakano City. In addition to this, all of the Pastel*Palettes members' family names are based on the names of different areas in Nakano City.
Nao (Japanese: ナオ, Traditional Chinese: 奈央, Simplified Chinese: 奈绪): In Japanese, her first name has no specific meaning due to it being written in katakana. In Traditional Chinese, Na (奈) means "what" and O (央) means "center" or "middle". In Simplified Chinese, the first character is still Na (奈), meaning "what", but it's second character is O (绪), from the traditional Han character O (緒) means "string" or "cord".
