Kaname Raana is a third-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' Junior High School and the lead guitarist for MyGO!!!!!.

Background

Raana was born to her mother Utai (要（かなめ）唄（うたい）) and father Tsuyoshi (要（かなめ）毅（つよし）). She is also the granddaughter of Tsuzuki Shifune. Her guitar is a hand-me-down from her grandmother, specifically the guitar she used while performing as Shisen. She would hang out at SPACE every day playing the guitar, however after its closing, Raana felt that she had lost the place where she belongs to. Later on, Raana started frequently playing at RiNG and would also try practicing with other bands, however, she never stayed long with any of them as she would quickly lose interest.

Appearance

Raana has short, wavy, grayish-white hair that falls just above her shoulders. Her left eye is steel blue and her right eye is yellow.

Her original band outfit consists of a sleeveless black turtleneck top with a chartreuse yellow zipper on the collar, an oversized white jacket that is blue on the inside, black leggings with thin white stripes on each side, and black shoes with laces that are the same yellow as her zipper.

In her casual outfit, she wears a white long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder T-shirt dress underneath a slightly shorter-sleeved black shirt that's ripped along the bottom hem.

Personality

Raana is an eccentric girl. She is a very talented guitarist who also has a very frank personality, as she always states what she likes and doesn't like. As shown in multiple area conversations and "Daily Life of MyGO!!!!!" shorts, she is somewhat of a glutton and loves sweets, especially parfaits, while she dislikes hot foods, sour foods and spicy foods because she has a sensitive tongue.

Taki has dubbed her "RiNG's stray cat" due to her whimsical nature. She arrives to and leaves practice when she feels like it and even does things like staying at school until evening to play with stray cats. She can be easily persuaded through snacks and especially with anything matcha-flavored. She abruptly joins MyGO!!!!! by herself because she thinks Tomori is a "very interesting woman". After being scolded about it by Ririko, she started calling Tomori and the others "interesting girls" instead.

Raana eventually mentions that after SPACE closed down, she felt like she was suffocating - as she considers playing the guitar as natural as breathing - but after meeting Tomori and joining the band, she "started having an easier time breathing again."

Raana also has her bouts of insightfulness, as she can sense something unusual that most of people normally can't see around her. For example, she was quickly able to sense that there are two people within Mutsumi's body when she met Mortis for the first time, and later seeing through Mortis switching and mimicking Mutsumi during Ave Mujica's "reunion" at RiNG, leading to Raana calling her an interesting girl.

Etymology

Kaname (要) means "pivot" or "main [essential] point".

Raana (Japanese: 楽奈, Chinese: 樂奈, or 乐奈): Raa (楽) means "ease" and Na (奈) means "what" or used for transliteration of foreign words. In Chinese, Raa (Spelt with 樂 or 乐) more commonly refers to music or as a shortened term for musical instrument.

Trivia

• Raana is the only character in the series who has heterochromia.
  • Her eye colors (amber and blue) represent a form of heterochromia specifically found in cats.
  • This trait is by far the most common with solid white cats, much like Raana's own hair color.
• Raana is the only MyGO!!!!! character that did not initially have her school nor her year listed. However, in the anime it is revealed that she goes to Hanasakigawa's middle school branch.
• According to her clubmates, Raana does not do any handicrafts but instead hangs out at the club, and plays the guitar and tries out the clothes her clubmates make in exchange for snacks.
• Raana is bad at using technology and she often doesn't properly check through or answer text messages, instead reading them as they appear on her phone's screen as notifications.
• Raana dislikes sports because she easily gets exhausted.
• She is the same height as Rimi and Tsukushi and is also the shortest MyGO!!!!! member.
• Raana's birthday is on Japanese Cat Day (February 22nd).
