Shiina Taki is a first-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and the drummer and composer for MyGO!!!!!.

She is classmates with Umiri and Uika. She also works part-time at RiNG with Kasumi and Saaya.

Appearance

Taki has long, straight, mauve-toned dark brown hair tucked behind her ears, with long bangs that drift to her left and reach her eyes. She has sharp, pinkish-purple eyes with some space underneath her irises, thin arched brows, and a mole under the corner of her left eye.

Her original band outfit consisted of a white jacket with pockets on each side and blue horizontal stripes on each sleeve, worn over a black top and a black button-down skirt, which is held up by a chartreuse yellow belt. She wears black shoes with chartreuse yellow laces.

In her casual outfit, she wears a black shirt with a white coat over it, a denim miniskirt with a brown belt around it, and black sneakers. She also wears a triangular earring on her right ear.

Background

Taki lives with her sister Maki, who is 4 years older than her. When Maki was in high school, she was the president of Haneoka Girls' High School's brass band, and one of the trumpet players of the local orchestra that frequently participated in and won in competitions. She currently attends university and is still part of said orchestra.

Taki used to attend Haneoka's middle school branch. Much like Maki, she used to play the trumpet in her school's brass band. Due to certain circumstances, one being her not wanting to be regarded as "Shiina Maki's sister", she switched to Hanasakigawa in high school.

Taki was also the drummer of CRYCHIC, and was invited to join the band by Sakiko on Maki's recommendation. After the band's disbandment, Taki started learning how to compose DTM (DeskTop Music), and got a part-time job at RiNG as a staff member in order to learn more about bands.

Personality

In contrast to Taki's cool appearance, she is very serious, reactive, and prefers to be alone. She comes off as unfriendly due to her blunt personality and short temper, though beneath her harsh exterior, is a deeply caring and highly observant person. She seems the happiest and most at peace when performing onstage.

Taki suffers from a severe inferiority complex and believes herself to be much less skilled, capable, and of good character than in reality, and compares herself to other people she deems superior, namely her older sister Maki, and her ex-bandmate Sakiko. It is common for her to become depressed over her perceived lower status, and to overexert herself in order to make up for her faults, such as how she often forgets to eat and sleep when composing music, consequently leading her to either fall asleep in class or to skip school entirely.

Taki devotes herself endlessly to Tomori, because Tomori's lyrics are what led her to the realization that "It's all right for me to be alive". However, because of Taki's grappling with self-hatred and the fear of her "weak" self being seen, she struggles to express her emotions openly and truly connect with Tomori, despite Tomori's own attempts to become closer to her, previously believing that even wanting to perform with Tomori is a "selfish desire".

Taki is currently the only character from both MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica to have an unclear family background. While Maki is only ever mentioned in passing and has made no appearances, there are also no signs of her parents or any other relatives.

Etymology

Shiina (椎名): Shii (椎) means "hammer" or "vertebrae". It also refers to the Japanese Chinquapin tree. Na (名) means "name".

Taki (立希): Ta (立) means "stand" or "rise" and Ki (希) means "hope" or "wish".

Trivia

• She is the same height as Kasumi, Tsugumi, Aya, Hina, and Kanon.
• Taki's favorite band is Afterglow.
• Taki is deeply fond of pandas and has many panda merchandise. Her phone wallpaper, profile picture, and bedroom door nameplate all include pandas.
• Rikki, (リッキー; sometimes spelled as "Ricky") Anon's nickname for Taki, is the more typical reading of the kanji that make up Taki's name.
• In both the anime and MyGO!!!!!'s animated shorts, Taki is the sole character with glossy lips, which suggests she wears makeup. She is also described as a "cool beauty" by Anon.
• Taki can eat shiitake and shirataki, but dislikes them because in the past, she was teased for the similarity between the foods' names and her name.
• The kanji for Maki, the name of Taki's older sister, is "真希". Ma (真) means "true" or "real", and Ki (希) means "hope" or "wish" just like in Taki's name. While Taki's name can be interpreted as "rising hope", Maki's name can be interpreted as "true hope".
• Taki's birthday falls on August 9, or 89. In goroawase, this number can be read as "yaku" (厄), a term which can mean "misfortune" or "disaster".
  • This seems to be referenced in one of MyGO!!!!!'s animated shorts. While reading their omikuji, Taki's omikuji has "kyo" (凶), meaning "bad luck" or "misfortune".
• Taki's mole beneath the eye is called a "nakibokuro" (なきぼくろ) or "tear mole". This is because it is located in an area where a tear might naturally fall. According to Japanese folklore, individuals with this mole may be more sensitive, prone to crying, or could lead lives marked by sorrow or tragedy.
  • Similarly, according to the FOOTPRINTS guidebook, Taki's sanpaku eyes are an important feature of hers. In Taki's case, she has "yin sanpaku", which pertains to the white under the iris. People with yin sanpaku are said to have a tragic fate, and may view the world as dangerous.
• In both of Taki's anime character profiles, it is explicitly stated that she and Maki have an age gap of 4 years. The number 4 in particular is sometimes considered unlucky in East Asia because of its pronunciation, which is similar to the word "death".
• The second Ave Mujica anime key visual includes a portrayal of several stuffed animals, theorized to represent the members of both MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica. The panda, which most likely represents Taki, is deliberately obscured and placed at the back, rather than in front with the rest of the stuffed animals. Unobscured, the panda looks noticeably dirty and worn down compared to the others.
